Dr Helmut Yu

Dr Helmut Yu is a consultant ophthalmologist with sub-specialty training in glaucoma, medical retina and cataract surgery. After completing a Bachelor of Engineering (photonics) from The University of New South Wales with first class honours and a PhD from the University of Sydney, he went on to study medicine at The Australian National University.

Following his ophthalmology training at The Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Dr Yu pursued sub-specialty fellowships at several prestigious institutions in the United Kingdom, focusing on glaucoma and cataract surgery at Cambridge University Hospital and Queen Victoria Hospital, and medical retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He was appointed as a glaucoma consultant at Cambridge University Hospital.

Dr. Yu has extensive surgical and procedural experience, including complex cataract surgeries, intravitreal injections, selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) performed in conjunction with cataract surgery. His expertise also includes trabeculectomy, Preserflo MicroShunt implantation, and Paul tube surgeries.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Yu is an accomplished researcher with a portfolio of publications spanning both medicine and engineering. He has also been actively involved in several clinical trials.
